Probably no advance in medicine has had more of an impact than the
development of
laser surgery. Lasers work by emitting a powerful beam of
light. This removes the
uppermost layer of the skin, and as the new living cells heal the area,
the skin tightens, fine lines are removed, and deeper lines are softened.
Lasers can be used to treat sun-damaged skin, mild acne scarring,
age spots and skin discolorations, facial scars and wrinkles. Other
types of lasers are used to treat spider and/or leg veins,
remove
unwanted hair, and remove tattoos.
The advantages of laser surgery includes the lack of need for general
anesthesia or hospitalization. In fact, some laser procedures may be
done in the
office.
